• A 6-year-old Ed Sheeran fan wanted one thing for his birthday: to invite the singer to his Sheeran-themed party
  • The boy's mother made multiple TikToks about the request, which led fans to rally behind the cause
  • Sheeran was too busy touring to attend but put together an incredible package of gifts for the child to make up for it

Every 6-year-old has their own little obsession, right? Some love dinosaurs. Some love pirates. And some love British singer-songwriters in the folk-pop genre who emerged in the mid-2000s.

Look, that last one is true for at least one 6-year-old boy named Ren. The boy's obsession with Ed Sheeran has been dutifully and thoroughly chronicled on TikTok by his mother, Alex, including his recent request for an Ed Sheeran-themed birthday party.

According to Movin925.com, Alex went as far as to obtain Ed Sheeran decorations for the birthday bash. But there was one request she wasn't quite sure she could pull off: Ren wanted Ed Sheeran himself to get an invite to the party.

"Alex said she was distressed because Ren asked her to invite Ed to the party," the site reports, "...and when she went along with it and said she would, he became convinced Ed would actually show up."

The internet, being how it is in ways both good and bad, decided this was a cause to rally around, sharing the video and tagging Sheeran in all the videos related to Ren's party and the invite. Eventually, members of Sheeran's team did reach out to Alex.

Ed himself couldn't make it to the party because he was busy on tour, but he sent along some special gifts to make Ren's birthday even more memorable.

The package included "...a T-shirt, guitar, microphone, notebook and a signed copy of Ed's latest album, Subtract, along with a card." Initially shocked, Ren eventually found his voice again and used it to belt out some of his favorite Sheeran tunes.

So the moral of this story is, apparently, if you put it out there online that you're theming your birthday party to a musician, there's a chance they'll send you a bunch of stuff for free.

So with that in mind, I'd like to formally announce that my forthcoming 34th birthday will have a Jimmy Buffet theme. I wear a size large shirt, size 13 shoes, and I really like those frozen Margaritaville shrimp they sell at Target. Now internet, do your thing!
